Sun Protection Hack: Layering SPF
Sunscreen is arguably the most important step in a beauty routine. Damage from the sun is no joke, and prolonged sun exposure over many years can have serious consequences. Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to ensure that your skin is always protected. Our favorite method for sun protection is to layer products that contain SPF.
Layering SPF doesn’t necessarily mean SPFs add up. For example, if you start with a product with 15 SPF and add a product with 30 on top, you won’t get 45 SPF – you’ll only be at the highest level of SPF you applied which would be 30. But by increasing the number of products with SPF ingredients you are greatly increasing your level of protection from various types of UVA/UVB rays.
To layer SPF, you’ll want to start with the lightest product and add from there. Ideally, you should be starting with a daily moisturizer with at least SPF 15. This will not only ensure you have a smooth canvas for makeup application but also is a great way to get all-over sun protection right off the bat.
The next layer of sun protection we love, especially for summer is using a BB Cream with SPF. Bellapierre’s Derma Renew BB Cream contains SPF 20 and has buildable medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula has a silky texture and leaves a dewy, radiant glow to the skin that looks natural. Perfect for beach days when you want a little coverage but not too heavy on the makeup!
For a more day-to-day option, instead of the BB Cream you could swap for Bellapierre’s Mineral Foundation, which is SPF 15 and contains Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. Unlike chemical sunscreens which work by absorbing the sun’s harmful rays, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide sit on top of the skin and block them naturally.
No matter the formula you choose, layering SPF is a sun protection hack you can and should be using. Your skin will thank you for it!
